Hawaii Island Teacher Launches AI Tool for Educators

A new AI-powered tool designed to reduce teacher workload and improve the quality of feedback given to students has been released by Sam Anderson-Moxley, an educator at West Hawaii Explorations Academy in Kailua-Kona. Called Roborubrics, the tool runs within Google’s productivity suite and uses artificial intelligence to streamline the grading process and provide personalized student feedback.

The inspiration for Roborubrics stemmed from Anderson-Moxley’s own experience as a teacher.

“When I first started teaching, I taught close to 180 students per day. Grading assignments would take hours. I’d constantly work late into the night. Giving the consistent, high-quality feedback that my students deserved felt impossible,” he said.

Teacher burnout and high workloads are a global concern, with UNESCO reporting that global teacher attrition rates nearly doubled from 4.62% in 2015 to 9.06% in 2022. The majority of teachers struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance due to long working hours, large class sizes, and high workloads.

Roborubrics aims to alleviate these challenges by significantly reducing grading time and helping to ease teacher workload. The tool’s user-friendly interface and intuitive design make it accessible to educators, even those who are not tech-savvy. Teachers can create a rubric, open a Google Docs file, and simply click Roborubrics for automatic feedback. By streamlining the grading process, the tool frees up time for other aspects of teaching—or much-needed rest and relaxation.

Anderson-Moxley emphasizes the impact Roborubrics has had on his own teaching experience.

“I did not become a teacher because I enjoyed grading assignments for 10+ hours a week and working overtime without pay. I became a teacher to inspire and nurture curiosity in my students, not perform time-consuming repetitive tasks. Thanks to Roborubrics, I can focus on the best parts of teaching. I’m happier and more fulfilled in my job.”

As AI continues to reshape various industries, tools like Roborubrics demonstrate the potential for collaboration between humans and technology in the field of education. By leveraging AI to enhance teaching practices, educators can stay ahead of the curve and deliver exceptional educational experiences to their students.

Roborubrics, established is a technology company dedicated to empowering educators with AI, with the mission of creating technology that makes teachers’ lives easier. The tool is now available for educators looking to embrace innovative teaching practices and experience the power of AI in education.
